Phil Gilligan was most recently Head of Innovation and Americas Chief Information Officer in Deutsche Bank’s COO Group. Phil has held senior technology leadership positions at UBS, ICAP, EBS Dealing Resources, Merrill Lynch, Moody’s and Morgan Stanley. Phil is highly regarded as a decisive, strategic & innovative leader with extensive experience executing large transformational technology initiatives.
At Deutsche Bank Phil was accountable for designing and developing a formal Innovation platform to establish the Bank as a thought-leader within key innovation ecosystems around the world. He led the design and launch of the “DB Labs” centers in Berlin, London, Silicon Valley and New York to accelerate the discovery and adoption of new technologies into the bank. Phil also took on the additional responsibility of Americas CIO, overseeing the major regulatory programs for the region.
Prior to Deutsche Bank Phil was the CIO for UBS Wealth Management Americas, & Americas CIO. He established an architectural blueprint, a mobile solution for legacy systems, instituted significant cost reductions, and re-structured the technology organization.
At ICAP Phil held the position of CIO for Electronic Broking, responsible for the EBS FX and Brokertec fixed income OTC trading venues. Prior to ICAP’s EBS acquisition in 2006, Phil was CTO at EBS, executing a multi-year program to replace and upgrade the global trading platform, and subsequently became Head of Business Development delivering new products to market.
At Merrill Lynch, Phil was responsible for the Private Client wealth management division business systems. He led the highly successful “Merrill Lynch Online” initiative, the company’s first Internet offering in 1996, then led “Merrill Lynch Direct” in 1999 delivering discount trading to clients over the Internet. Phil also was responsible for the development of a complete new suite of business applications for the financial advisors delivered via the “Trusted Global Advisor” initiative.
Phil holds a bachelor’s degree in Zoology from Kings College London, and a Master of Science Degree in Biological Oceanography from the University of Southampton, UK. Earlier in his career, he worked for several years as a marine biologist with the World Wildlife Fund, the British Antarctic Survey, the Government of Norway, the University of Dalhousie Nova Scotia, and the University of St Johns Newfoundland.
Phil’s hobbies include biking, swimming, hiking & camping, wine, travel and cosmology. He is married with three children and lives in New Jersey.
